Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has been the talk of the internet amid her feud with Nicki Minaj—and now a former classmate has spoken out in her defense and shared a now-viral photo of Stallion's yearbook photo.
On January 26, Stallion released her new song "Hiss," which is said to take aim at Minaj's husband, registered sex offender Kenneth Petty, as it references Megan's Law. This is a federal law requiring law-enforcement authorities to make information available to the public regarding registered sex offenders.
As reported by Rolling Stone, in July 2022, Petty was sentenced to a year under home confinement, along with the three years' probation, and a $55,000 fine, for failing to register in California as a sex offender.
Just hours after Stallion's hit was released, Minaj previewed her new song "Big Foot" on Instagram, hitting back at Stallion with lyrics allegedly mocking her height. Fans also believe it jabs at her ex following allegations of Tory Lanez shooting Stallion in her feet in July 2020. Song lyrics in "Big Foot" include: "Bad b**** she like 6 foot/ I call her big foot/ the b**** fell off/I said get up on your good foot."
This new song has been hit with criticism from a variety of Minaj's fans and some people have taken to social media to defend Stallion. This includes one of her former high school classmates who shared a yearbook photo that dubbed her "sophomore class favorite."
Newsweek contacted Stallion's talent agent for comment via email Tuesday.
"I went to high school with her and no she didn't look like that, she's always been naturally gorgeous. Big smile but not no big nose quit lying on her like that," @Quinveer wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a photoshopped image of Megan circulating online.
She added: "Haha I wish I knew her like a friend but EVERYONE DID KNOW HER because she was so popular. She got voted class favorite not once but TWICE bc (because) of how NICE she was to everyone she ever met and she was in allll kinds of clubs. mind you our grad class had 900 kids in it."
While the original account has since limited who can see their posts, a post containing screenshots of what was said has gone viral on X after it was shared by @MegansStats. At the time of writing it had been viewed 5.8 million times.
People have taken to the comments to share their love for Megan, with many not being surprised by what the former classmate had to say.
"I went to nursing school with a girl who was friends with her in HS (high school). She said Megan was kind too," one person claimed.
"Not surprising at all. She seem friendly," said another.
"see when you're nice w other ppl, they'll eventually show up and be on your side," a third person commented.
A fourth added: "Meg always seemed authentic from the start of her career."
While the two rappers are feuding now, Stallion and Minaj used to be friends, having released the hit song "Hot Girl Summer" in 2019, but their friendship has soured over the years.
At the time of writing, Stallion had not issued an official response to "Big Foot" or any of Minaj's social media posts about her.
