Amber Bowles and Matt Gwynne had a short-lived marriage and a tumultuous divorce during their time on Lifetime’s Married at First Sight Season 9 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Matt and Amber seemed to have some chemistry at first, but the marriage between the former basketball player and middle school teacher quickly fell apart amid his alleged cheating. Eventually, Amber and Matt got a divorce – but not before Amber accused Matt of refusing to sign the papers multiple times.

In a Mar. 8 Instagram Live interview with Erin Hill (@getncozywitherin on Instagram) on her series Tub Talk, Amber opened up more about her troubled history with Matt. She even claimed that she thought he had narcissistic traits.

Amber Bowles claimed Matt Gwynne seemed to have ‘narcissistic’ traits

When asked whether she thought Matt was a narcissist, or at least had narcissistic tendencies, Amber made her position clear right away.

“I genuinely think he is [a narcissist],” the Married at First Sight star argued, adding that she felt Matt had “some mental health issues.” In particular, Amber claimed that Matt’s view of himself didn’t align with reality in her mind.

“He really thought a lot of himself, even though his view of himself – to me – was really distorted,” Amber said. She went on to claim that her ex-husband was “super entitled” and had an inflated ego, at least in her limited experiences with him.

For example, Amber pointed out, Matt believed he was “qualified” to be on Married at First Sight, even though he wasn’t truly a good fit for the show.

The ‘Married at First Sight’ star argued that Matt’s childhood might have played a role

As for why Matt’s ego was allegedly so out of control, Amber argued that his childhood might have had something to do with his view of himself.

“It seems like [his narcissistic straits] stem from the way he was raised,” the Married at First Sight Season 9 star claimed. “His parents thought a lot of him.”

Amber went on to claim that Matt’s parents paid $40,000 for him to go to a particular high school where he could get recruited for basketball “at a small D1 school.” They even moved to Charlotte in the first place, Amber alleged, when Matt was 16 specifically so he could play basketball.

“They literally did everything they could to move the world for him,” Amber concluded, adding that Matt also lived in a family member’s home until he was 28. It was only when his parents stopped doing so much for him, Matt’s ex-wife argued, that his relationship with them became strained.

She argued that Matt would ‘never settle down’

Amber also told Erin that Matt was “constantly” on dating apps during their brief eight-week marriage. On Tinder and Bumble, he was “constantly being bombarded with other options,” Amber claimed. This tempted him, she argued, because he always felt he could do better.

The 29-year-old went on to claim that her ex-husband was a “bigger, better deals type of guy.” Because he always thought something better out there was waiting for him, she didn’t think he was marriage material.

“He’s never going to settle down,” the Married at First Sight star predicted.

Married at First Sight airs Wednesdays on Lifetime at 8 p.m. EST.
