Ready for a comeback? Jessica Simpson shared a throwback clip from her performance at the American Music Awards 15 years ago, and it’s glorious.
During the 2016 AMAs on Sunday, November 20, the “With You” singer, 36, posted an Instagram video with the caption, “Throwing it back to the 2001 #AMA Bring it 2017.”
In the footage, the songstress, who is dressed in a tied-up white shirt and white pants, belts out her 1999 single “I Wanna Love You Forever” from her debut album, Sweet Kisses. That year, she was nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist, but lost out to 3 Doors Down.
Although Simpson didn’t attend the award show this year, she hinted with her 2017 reference that she may be making a musical comeback next year. The Employee of the Month actress hasn’t released an album since Happy Christmas in 2010, and her last non-holiday album was Do You Know, her sixth studio record, in 2008.
In the last several years, she’s been focusing on her wildly successful Jessica Simpson Collection fashion and accessories brand and raising her two children, Maxwell, 4, and Ace, 3, with her husband, Eric Johnson.
Earlier this year, Jessica’s father, Joe Simpson, confirmed that new music is in the works for his elder daughter. “She is definitely working in the studio, she’s definitely doing that,” he told Us. “The record is very personal, about her journey, and unlike the other records that tend to be just pop records, this is her journey."
